🌲 Environment
Ohio residents see ruby-throated hummingbirds visit feeders as the birds fuel up before traveling south for winter, with the last ones leaving as late as mid-October.
Experts say to keep feeders filled with a simple sugar water mix+ clean them often to help the birds reach winter homes in Mexico and Central America.
🏛️ Government
City officials in North Canton discussed a plan on Sept.
8 to extend a sidewalk—about a third of a mile—on Seventh Street NE near the new middle school opening in 2027. Deputy director Jason Segedy said a consultant will design the plan for an Ohio Department of Transportation grant and the city now awaits cost estimates.
Ohio will lower the senior discount age for fishing and hunting licenses from 66 to 65 on Sept.
30, reducing fishing fees from $25 to $10 and hunting fees from $19 to $10 while saving seniors about half a million dollars annually. The Senior Sportsmen Fairness Act (House Bill 64) passed unanimously and will ease costs for senior sportsmen.

On Friday, Sept. 12, the Jackson Polar Bears beat the Mayfield Wildcats 33-6 at Robert Fife Stadium—Corey Jacobs had a 75 yard touchdown run that sparked the win, bringing Jackson to a 2-2 record.
The team will host Federal League play next week.
