ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ohio residents see ruby-throated hummingbirds visit feeders as the birds fuel up before traveling south for winter, with the last ones leaving as late as mid-October. Experts say to keep feeders filled with a simple sugar water mix+ clean them often to help the birds reach winter homes in Mexico and Central America.  FOX 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in North Canton discussed a plan on Sept. 8 to extend a sidewalk—about a third of a mile—on Seventh Street NE near the new middle school opening in 2027. Deputy director Jason Segedy said a consultant will design the plan for an Ohio Department of Transportation grant and the city now awaits cost estimates.  The Repository
  • Ohio will lower the senior discount age for fishing and hunting licenses from 66 to 65 on Sept. 30, reducing fishing fees from $25 to $10 and hunting fees from $19 to $10 while saving seniors about half a million dollars annually. The Senior Sportsmen Fairness Act (House Bill 64) passed unanimously and will ease costs for senior sportsmen.  The Repository

  • On Friday, Sept. 12, the Jackson Polar Bears beat the Mayfield Wildcats 33-6 at Robert Fife Stadium—Corey Jacobs had a 75 yard touchdown run that sparked the win, bringing Jackson to a 2-2 record. The team will host Federal League play next week.  The Repository
