Cheek, a Montabella Estates resident, filed an administrative appeal in Stark County Common Pleas Court to challenge Canton’s zoning law that stops him from using his Market Avenue N home as an Airbnb—he claims the rule is arbitrary and unevenly enforced. His attorney, Susan J. Lax, alleges that enforcing the law in his case shows racial discrimination while local homeowners and officials support keeping short-term rentals out of single-family neighborhoods. The Repository
