Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 17th of March.
Good morning, Canton.
Michael E. Cheek, a Montabella Estates resident, filed an administrative appeal in Stark County Common Pleas Court to challenge Canton’s zoning law that stops him from using his Market Avenue N home as an Airbnb—he claims the rule is arbitrary and unevenly enforced.
His attorney, Susan J. Lax, alleges that enforcing the law in his case shows racial discrimination while local homeowners and officials support keeping short-term rentals out of single-family neighborhoods.
Stark County bartenders shared what makes a good customer and a favorite drink—friendly regulars give high tips while some college students and hard-to-please wine drinkers test their patience.
They explained that making drinks such as the old fashioned is fun but cocktails like margaritas take time—showing that working behind a bar has its ups and downs.
Louisville High School will play Garfield Heights in a Division III state semifinal game at Memorial Field House in Canton tonight (the Leopards make their first state tournament appearance).
