- ➤ The heaviest snow of the season forced schools to cancel classes today, giving families a chance to enjoy sledding at local hills in Canton, North Canton, Alliance, and nearby areas — some of which may need permission for access. The Repository
- ➤ Alliance's Christmas in the Park returns on Dec. 6th at Silver Park with free festivities that include a debut iceless skating rink, live ice sculpture demonstrations, photos with Santa, crafts, treat trails, and music from 5 to 8 p.m. Attendees are advised to use Alliance Middle School parking due to limited parking at the park. - ➤ Acme Fresh Market at 1474 N. Main St is hosting its second Diaper Derby on Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. — the event features a crawling race for babies aged 7 to 18 months with one participant winning free Huggies diapers and wipes for a year, and registration closes on Dec. 3. The Repository

- ➤ Neon Nights, a two-day country music festival at Clay's Resort Jellystone Park in Stark County, will feature headliners Rascal Flatts performing at 9:15 p.m. Aug. 14th, 2026 and Billy Currington at 9:15 p.m. Aug. 15th, 2026—tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Dec. 5th. The Repository
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wilderness Center bought 36 acres near its Sugar Creek Township location from the Soehnlen family farm at a land auction that closed Nov. 12 and will assess the land before making it a wildlife habitat and trail that connects to Sigrist Woods and Foxfield Preserve. The center will plant native trees and build nesting boxes for bluebirds while planning educational uses for the property — a project supported by over $430,000 in private donations. The Repository

- ➤ Several Stark County high school basketball teams wrapped up season openers this week. Canton McKinley won 68 to 59 over St. Vincent-St. Mary—Alliance edged Northwest by one point—while Carrollton rallied late to force overtime and teams including Louisville, Canton South, Tuslaw, and Malvern each earned wins.
