ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Canton police officer David E. Wolgamott died Nov. 10 when his car crashed on Cherry Avenue SE while he was driving to work, and a celebration of life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 18 at NewPointe Community Church (3950 State Route 39, Dover Township) with friends visiting his family from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 17.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nominations are now open for Stark County area art and music educator awards (due by Dec. 14) and finalists will be announced early February; winners (each receiving a $500 check) will be honored before the Canton Symphony Orchestra MasterWorks concert on March 28.  The Repository

FINANCE NEWS

  • Nobody won the huge $512 million Powerball jackpot on Nov. 11, and many players across the state won smaller prizes. The jackpot will climb to $546 million for the drawing on Nov. 15 at 10:59 p.m. — its cash option will be $255 million — as officials report widespread wins.  WKYC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thanksgiving Day, Nov 27, federal offices — state offices and banks will be closed and mail delivery will not occur while local trash services in Canton will not operate. Many retailers and restaurants will adjust their hours or remain closed, so residents should check with each business for details.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tomorrow, West Branch and Perry will play in a Division IV regional semifinal high school football game at 7 p.m. in Stark County—analysts predict Perry will win 28-24 as West Branch seeks to extend its 10-game winning streak.  The Repository
  • Friday, Canton McKinley will face Mentor in a high school football regional semifinal at 7 p.m.—the game is part of the OHSAA playoffs that pits the 9 to 2 Bulldogs, seeking their first double-digit win season, against the unbeaten Cardinals who are favored to win 28 to 20. This matchup marks another playoff meeting between the two teams, with McKinley looking to overcome last year’s loss.  The Repository
  • North Canton Hoover's Jack Andes earned the 2025 Federal League Football Player of the Year and Canton McKinley head coach Renzy Parnell was named Coach of the Year—both honors chosen by league coaches. Andes led his team with 21 touchdowns and 1,491 yards from scrimmage—while Parnell guided McKinley to an outright league championship and prepares the Bulldogs for a regional semifinal on Friday.  The Repository
