- ➤ Yesterday, Alliance officer Ronald Hooks was dispatched to Tractor Supply when John Welsh from Palmerton rode a bull named Gus to promote an upcoming bull riding competition in Canton. Hooks petted Gus and even posed for photos during the call — ending the encounter with smiles and pictures. The Repository
- ➤ Canton officials announced that contractors will soon begin building a $1.4 million synthetic turf field behind the J. Babe Stearn Community Center—reviving plans that were delayed by the pandemic and rising costs. The multipurpose field, which will host baseball, soccer and lacrosse, is expected to be completed by spring 2026—bringing new sports opportunities to local kids. The Repository

- ➤ Today, downtown Canton hosts First Friday with an art theme that displays children’s work in local galleries from 5 to 9 p.m.; a film fest showing classic Three Stooges episodes starts at 7:30 p.m. Donnie Iris and The Cruisers will perform on Nov. 8 while Minerva High School’s comedy play runs from Nov. 6 to Nov. 8 — offering a busy cultural lineup for the community. - ➤ Marlee Matlin, the first deaf actor to win an Academy Award, inspired the Canton crowd with her story of perseverance at a Stark Library event held at Canton Palace Theatre on Nov. 6. The Repository
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Perry Township police officer Andrea Blanc was named Ohio School Resource Officer of the Year for 2025—she received a plaque on Oct.21 after 14 years with Perry Police and working with Perry Local Schools since 2014. Perry officials said her role built strong ties with students, staff and families. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ SARTA began offering free bus rides to SNAP recipients on November 6 and will continue the service through November 29 on fixed routes except for routes 4 and 81—riders must show an Ohio Direction card to board. The Repository
- ➤ Ohio leaders provided $25 million for food assistance in Northeast Ohio as SNAP benefits faced a possible pause starting Nov 1 (Gov. Mike DeWine said the funding would not meet all needs) while local food banks are helping residents locate nearby pantries (covering areas such as Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga). WKYC
- ➤ Ohio SNAP benefits were not available this week due to the federal shutdown, and the state is beginning an $18M emergency food aid program for more than 63,000 low-income residents—mainly children—starting today. The extra payments will be 25% of the usual Ohio Works First allotment and continue for four weeks or until the shutdown ends. FOX 8

- ➤ Ohio high school football playoffs continue this Friday as 69 teams across seven divisions compete for state championships. Local schools such as St. Edward and Mentor will play second-round games at 7 p.m. from the higher seed's home stadium — with top seeds receiving byes under the new format. WKYC
- ➤ Robert Kraft and Canton’s own Ralph Hay are among nine contributor semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026 after a special panel cut the original list of 21 nominees on Thursday. The panel will meet next Tuesday to choose one finalist for further voting next year while other nominees include Bud Adams and Art Rooney Jr. WKYC
