- ➤ Plain Township’s community garden at Al Leno Park ended its second season with every open plot leased—gardeners grew vegetables, fruits, and wildflowers that signaled a strong harvest. - ➤ Akron-Canton Airport will set a new record for nonstop destinations when Breeze Airways begins flying to Wilmington, North Carolina on Nov. 7, marking the airport's 24th nonstop route. In 2024, the airport saw a 10.5% rise in enplanements + its airline partners plan to boost seats and flights early next year. The Repository
- ➤ On Nov. 1, customers at Giant Eagle in Stark County exchanged millions of pennies for gift cards worth double their value amid a nationwide shortage caused by a halt in coin production—store officials weighed the coins by weight—and many seniors benefited by earning up to $200 in gift cards after waiting long hours. This promotion helped the store replenish its supply of pennies needed for cash transactions. The Repository

Charles Powell, a former Pentecostal pastor now known as Father Barnabas, will lead the free 2025 St. John Chrysostom Annual Retreat at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Canton on November 15—he will present a talk titled 'Be Watchful, Be Sober: St. Paul’s Wisdom for Spiritual Maturity' from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reservations are required. - ➤ Seventy-one candidates are running for 47 school board seats in Stark County as 13 of 17 districts hold contested races. Election Day is Nov. 4—voters will have many options to shape local education. The Repository

- ➤ Brice Fuller of Fairless High School spoke after his team won the OHSAA cross country boys Division III state championship on November 1—he discussed the race results and what the win meant for his school. The Repository
- ➤ Irelyn Johnson from Marlington High School won the OHSAA cross country girls Division III state championship on Nov. 1 — her victory marked a key achievement for her team. The Repository
- ➤ On Oct. 31, Hoover High School won a 50-6 OHSAA playoff game against Northland when John Collins threw four touchdown passes. The school's highlight video shows the key plays that led to the victory. The Repository
- ➤ On Friday, the OHSAA football playoffs began in Northeast Ohio under a new format that cut region qualifiers from 16 to 12 and gave top seeds a bye in the first round. The Midview Middies, with five wins and five losses, lost 15—20 to Rocky River, which had eight wins and two losses and had won six of its last seven games. FOX 8
- ➤ The OHSAA State Cross Country Championships began Saturday morning at Fortress Obetz and continue today as Stark County runners vie for podium finishes—Marlington’s Irelyn Johnson won the girls Division III race in 18:10.89 while Ansonia’s Bennett Lehman claimed the boys Division IV title in 15:17.91—with additional races scheduled throughout the day.
