- ➤ Pike Grange will host a rigatoni dinner on November 8 at 4 p.m. at the hall at 1421 Battlesburg Road SE+ the menu costs $12 and offers rigatoni, salad, bread, and dessert while a bake sale for donations runs concurrently. The Repository
- ➤ Bishop David Bonnar of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown launched an emergency food drive on October 31 for residents in six counties including Stark—donations can be dropped off at Catholic Charities or the St. Vincent de Paul Society as SNAP benefits end today because of a federal shutdown, and the drive will run until year-end. - ➤ An Akron-based nonprofit, Forever R Children, will expand its mobile shower bus program to Canton in 2026 to provide free showers, haircuts, clothes, and social service referrals for the homeless. The project is supported by the city and SARTA donating three buses (with local unions helping retrofit the vehicles) to restore dignity for those in need. The Repository

- ➤ Alliance voters will choose among five candidates for three school board seats on November 4 as incumbents Beth Canfield-Simbro, Tyler Kinser, and William Koch face challengers Lori Burse and Teresa Caserta — board members earn $125 per monthly meeting they attend up to a maximum of 24 meetings a year. - ➤ Fresh peaches sold at local Trader Joe's and Kroger have been recalled by the FDA — the fruit sold between Sept. 16 and Oct. 29 may carry a listeria risk. The recall covers peaches with PLU codes 4401 and 4044, while those marked 'Washington' or 'Organic' are not affected — customers should check product labels if they purchased this fruit. FOX 8

- ➤ At Friday's OHSAA playoffs in Stark County, high school teams played hard as Green upset Garfield Heights — Tyson Hunka threw three touchdown passes — and Westerville South won on a last-second score. Manchester, Malvern, Salem and Columbus East also won playoff games, moving their teams further in the tournament. The Repository
- ➤ Perry’s Justus Detter and Green’s Lucy Sveda were named Federal League XC Runners of the Year—honoring their strong season performances—and were recognized as league champions. The Repository
- ➤ Liam Barry from Jackson, Brayden Pipher of Canton South, Liv Ziders from Jackson, and Makenzie Beavers of Minerva were named Stark Runners of the Week after regional meets at Boardman and Pickerington—Barry placed 26th in Division I with a 16:51 finish, Pipher finished 33rd earning an individual state berth, Ziders came in 11th helping her team secure a state meet berth, and Beavers set a school-record time with a third-place finish to help her team finish runner-up. - ➤ East Canton Hornets returned to the OHSAA playoffs for the first time since 2021 with an 8-2 record after a 7-6 win over Malvern - they built an early 14-0 lead against Lisbon David Anderson as coach John-Spider Miller credited the team’s strong receiving corps with key plays during the game.
