- ➤ Giant Eagle will host a Penny Exchange Day on November 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at all locations, where customers can trade a minimum of 50 cents in pennies for a gift card worth double the coin total with a $100 cap (as the Treasury phases out penny production). FOX 8
- ➤ General Motors announced that it will lay off 1,334 hourly workers—many of whom work at its joint-venture Ultium Cells battery plant in Lordstown—with layoffs set for January 5. The temporary cuts for 850 workers come as GM adjusts production due to slower electric vehicle adoption following the end of federal tax incentives. FOX 8

- ➤ Retired Canton educator and author Nadine McIlwain will sign her debut novel Rolling Stone from 2 to 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 at Thrift Chicks on Fulton Drive NW—she will also hold a similar event from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 8 at The Tea Lady in Barberton—drawing on her experience teaching migrant children. - ➤ The federal government shutdown may pause SNAP benefits from being sent Nov. 1—affecting nearly 1.5 million Ohioans, including many families in Canton. Local food banks, state programs and pantries are ready to help those who need extra food assistance if the shutdown continues. The Repository
- ➤ The 15th Street SE and Allen Avenue SE railroad crossing reopened today after engineers realigned the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad in Canton — the project boosts travel safety — a second crossing at 10th Street NE and Lawrence Road NE will reopen in the coming weeks with further improvements. - ➤ Teasdale Foods recalled Taco Dinner Kits sold at Aldi, Giant, and Martin’s after customers complained that the kits contained cocoa mix packets instead of taco seasoning — an error that may expose people with milk allergies to undeclared milk. The recalled kits, sold in several states including Ohio, should be returned for a full refund as no illnesses have been reported. The Repository
