- ➤ Stark County homeowners have been setting up elaborate Halloween displays with towering skeletons, animatronics and handmade props throughout North Canton, Jackson Township and Lake Township. They use creative upcycling methods and sensor effects to add extra spookiness and draw local visitors. The Repository
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Giant Eagle announced a Penny Exchange Day on Nov. 1 at its over 200 stores where customers can exchange from 50 cents up to $100 in pennies for a gift card worth double the value. The grocery chain will collect coins between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to help maintain enough cash change amid reduced penny deliveries by the Federal Reserve — a plan affecting stores in our local area. - ➤ Tugboat's Pub has reopened at a new spot in Oakwood Square at 2710 Easton St. NE after closing in March 2024 and is now soft-opening with a limited menu plus owners Mike and Michelle Munson plan a grand celebration for Nov 7-8 when the full menu returns. The Repository
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Thomas Paumier, a Stark County dentist and Hoover High graduate, was elected president-elect of the American Dental Association on Oct. 27 in Washington, D.C. He has practiced locally since 1988 and served as president of the Ohio Dental Association (ODA), and he will succeed current president Richard Rosato for a year-long term. The Repository
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ A new $20 million independent living complex for residents 55 or older is under construction in Plain Township behind First Christian Church and will have 72 units in apartments and villas. The project offers a dog park, pickleball courts, bus transportation and smart sensors — developers plan to open some villas by mid-summer and finish the main building late next year. The Repository

- ➤ Ohio high school football playoffs will begin Oct. 31 with ten Stark County-area games set to start at 7 p.m. Teams without first-round byes—Lake, Massillon, McKinley, Triway and West Branch—will sit out while other area teams compete. The Repository
- ➤ The 2025 Ohio high school football regular season ended with the Massillon-McKinley rivalry game and new rankings now show top rushing, passing, and receiving leaders from Stark County—coaches must submit updated stats by noon on Mondays.
