- ➤ The Hall of Fame Resort and Entertainment Co. raised its borrowing limit to $22 million and extended its merger agreement deadline to Oct. 31 by a recent amendment from CH Capital Lending—this move supports its ongoing efforts to complete a deal that would privatize the company and revive stalled plans at Hall of Fame Village. - ➤ Canton hosts a busy fall calendar with a free free talk by Marlee Matlin at the Palace Theatre on Nov 6, a Fall Foodie Fest at Belden Village Mall on Oct 25, and a Mark Chesnutt country music show on Oct 25; other events include a Lady V comedy bash on Halloween, movie classics like Rosemary's Baby shown today, candlelight tributes at Lions Lincoln Theatre, a Women of the Rock Hall tribute in Minerva, a Gospel and Jazz Gala on Nov 7 and a new compilation release with a Scott Paris concert on Nov 22 that offer many options for all tastes. - ➤ Canton City Schools students will perform the comedy 'The Play That Goes Wrong' at Umstattd Hall (2331 17th St. NW) on November 6, 8 and 9; the play starts at 7 p.m. on November 6 and 8 and at 2 p.m. on November 9 with tickets costing $5 available at the CCSD Box Office or at the door. - ➤ The OHSAA board set dates for a NIL bylaw referendum after a lawsuit from Jamier Brown and a temporary restraining order on Oct. 20. Member high schools will cast one vote each from Nov. 17 to 21 to decide if student-athletes will be allowed to earn money from their name, image and likeness — if the vote fails, the future of NIL will be decided by the courts. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Twenty military veterans, including two from Stark County—Edward J. Elum and Larry R.W. Bostic Jr.—will be honored at a free induction ceremony on Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. at the Ohio State University Fawcett Center in Columbus where they will receive medals recognizing their service. The Repository
- ➤ If the federal government shutdown continues, 50,000 Stark County residents could miss their grocery payments from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program starting Nov. 1, and Gov. DeWine warned that the problem might grow worse. Stark County Job and Family Services is processing new applications and will update residents on official channels—further information will follow when federal funding resumes. The Repository

- ➤ The Pro Football Hall of Fame has reduced the seniors category to 34 former players—including Browns linebacker Clay Matthews and Bengals quarterback Ken Anderson—in a process that began with 162 nominees, and the finalists will be considered for induction if they are elected for the Class of 2026 enshrinement next August in Canton. - ➤ Mary Lou Wilton, 81, was elected last December as the first woman to lead the 92-year-old Massillon Tigers Football Booster Club, having served on its junior board since 2007. A lifelong Tigers fan and season ticket holder, she said she loves the team and plans to bring new fundraising ideas to support the program. The Repository
