- ➤ Lake High School football player Justin Landes remains at Akron Children's Hospital after a freak accident injured his kidney during the Oct. 17 home game and he underwent surgery on Oct. 18—preliminary tests show bleeding from a second laceration has subsided. The Repository

- ➤ Amazon is hiring about 11,000 seasonal workers in Ohio for holiday jobs that pay over $19 an hour—online listings will be updated weekly through December to fill both temporary and ongoing roles. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ If the government shutdown continues, nearly 1.4 million Ohioans will miss their monthly SNAP payments starting Nov. 1, Governor Mike DeWine warned that the delay may worsen food insecurity — the USDA is preparing backup plans while state lawmakers consider using state funds to cover the shortfall. - ➤ On Oct. 20 and 21, unpaid federal workers received food assistance at the MAPS Air Museum in North Canton—an effort funded by Bob and Nancy Gessner from Massillon to ease hardships amid a government shutdown. - ➤ Stark County high school voters cast ballots for the Athlete of the Week for Oct. 13-19 from nominees at Alliance, Canton South, Fairless, Lake, Lake Center, Marlington, McKinley, and Perry – the poll closed at 5 p.m. Thursday and winners were announced Friday morning on CantonRep.com. - ➤ Stark County high school football games will be played on Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 as the Ohio regular season ends this weekend—fourteen games include key rivalry matchups with most kicking off at 7 p.m. and the Massillon vs McKinley game starting at 2 p.m. The Repository
- ➤ Former Browns coaches Bill Belichick and Marty Schottenheimer are among 12 finalists in the running for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame class—other coaches include Tom Coughlin, Mike Shanahan, and George Seifert. A blue-ribbon committee will narrow the list to nine semifinalists next month and a coach will be inducted if they receive at least 80% of the full committee's votes. WKYC
- ➤ After nine weeks of high school football, Stark County stats show Alliance’s JR Jackson led in passing, interceptions and punting while teams from Malvern and McKinley posted strong rushing and scoring numbers — these figures were compiled from coaches’ submissions — marking a competitive season in Greater Canton. - ➤ After Jamier Brown filed a lawsuit on Oct. 15 over NIL deals, OHSAA executive director Doug Ute announced an emergency referendum vote for member schools to decide on a new bylaw during the 45-day restraining order, with the board set to meet on Oct. 23 to choose the voting dates.
