- ➤ The MAPS Air Museum in Green will host a two-day food pantry on Oct. 20 and Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to aid federal workers affected by the shutdown, organized by residents Bob and Nancy Gessner + the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank with leftover food available at the airport. - ➤ Stark County foster parent Ella Kirkland was named the 2025 Family of the Year by the Public Children Services Association of Ohio during its conference on Oct. 1 — she has cared for children in a foster home in Massillon for over 30 years. The Repository

- ➤ Metallus, a Canton-based steel manufacturer, and United Steelworkers Local 1123 reached a tentative agreement for a new four-year contract that is subject to a union vote scheduled for Oct. 30. Informational meetings are ongoing as the current contract, extended past its Sept. 29 expiration, awaits final approval. The Repository

- ➤ Cleveland artist Glen Infante created a rock that honors the Cavaliers’ Big Four for NBC’s 30 Rocks art showcase at Rockefeller Plaza in New York—he designed the piece without revisions as the Cavaliers praised its style—and his work will soon return to Cleveland for local fans to see. WKYC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Six Stark County school districts asked voters to renew tax levies on the Nov. 4 ballot that will keep tax bills unchanged and support salaries, benefits, and student programs. School leaders warned that if the levies fail, new state law restrictions will force budget cuts and a reassessment of spending—adding uncertainty to future planning. The Repository

- ➤ An East Sparta woman won $50,000 on a $10 Cash Plus scratch-off ticket—purchased at Mini Food Mart in Canton—and will receive $36,437.50 after taxes. The Repository
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On Oct. 17, 2025, the McKinley football team beat Jackson as receivers Deejay Britt (making key catches) and Darius Hill (scoring a touchdown) helped secure the win. The Repository
- ➤ Hoover High School graduate Alex Ramsey from North Canton is close to finishing the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3,100-mile race in Jamaica Queens and is expected to complete the event as early as Sunday or Monday. The race began on Aug. 30 and will continue until Oct. 20—only three other American runners have ever finished the 29th annual event. The Repository
