COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Stark Parks held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 10 at Tam O'Shanter Park on 5055 Hills and Dales Road NW to celebrate major improvements that included clubhouse renovations with new flushable toilets, enhanced parking, and better trail surfaces funded by state and local grants. A tree was planted to honor the late state Sen. Kirk Schuring for his impact in Stark County. The Repository
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The North Canton Board of Education paid $3,500 on Oct 15 to settle a complaint that the board did not follow state law for public meetings. Brian Ames, known for filing similar cases, threatened legal action and the board said the settlement was made to avoid extra legal costs. The Repository
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Lottery officials reported that no one won the $600 million Mega Millions jackpot on Tuesday, Oct. 14—thousands of smaller prizes were claimed across Ohio. The jackpot now climbs to $625 million and a drawing will occur at 11 p.m. today. WKYC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ironworkers Local 550 sent a letter urging Canton voters to vote yes on Issue 8 to support local parks, noting that the parks serve families, kids, and community organizations+ local groups. Union official Sean Diekmann emphasized that keeping parks like King Park functioning is vital for residents throughout Canton. The Repository

- ➤ The Women's Board of Aultman Hospital announced it will host Angels and the City at the Historic Masonic Temple in Canton on Oct. 23 to support the Compassionate Care Center—local boutiques and designers will showcase fashions during a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. followed by a runway show at 7 p.m. The Repository

- ➤ Pumpkins remain plentiful at Stark County patches and stores for Halloween even though some growers have fewer white pie and Cinderella types due to the summer drought (prices average $4 to $6).
