- ➤ Meta-Morphosis, a nonprofit juvenile rehabilitation and reentry program, is hosting a dinner fundraiser at Cathedral of Life Church on Oct. 28 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.—tickets cost $25 per person or $40 per couple. The Repository

- ➤ Academy Sports + Outdoors will open a 55,754-square-foot store at The Strip in Jackson Township in 2026 — Stark Enterprises said the 15-year lease supports the expansion of local retail options for North Canton and surrounding areas. The Repository
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Oct 18, the Canton Black Assistance Foundation will host its Holiday Vocabulary Contest for Canton City Schools students in grades two to five, offering $200 for first prize, $100 for second, and $50 for third prize per grade. Students must attend two Breakfast & Books sessions, use challenge words correctly to avoid elimination, and register for $3 (waived upon request) by Nov 15. The Repository
- ➤ Northwest physical education teacher Angie Ellis created a fire safety obstacle course to help first graders learn how to dial 911, stop, drop and roll, and practice scooter safety (the course took four hours to set up and included local firefighters showing their gear). The activity combined physical activity and life-saving lessons in a fun and memorable way. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Daylight saving time will end at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2 when residents will set their clocks back to standard time. Ohio lawmakers have urged Congress to adopt permanent DST — but the measure remains stalled, so the time change will occur as scheduled. The Repository
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ U.S. health officials report 1,596 measles cases in 42 states as of Oct. 14 and Ohio has seen 42 cases in Ashtabula, Knox and Franklin counties. A measles case at New Albany Early Learning Center forced the school to close temporarily for over 500 students as officials stress that vaccination is key to stopping the spread. The Repository

- ➤ Jackson Township trustees approved a zoning change for the Cypress Point development during a public hearing on Oct 14, shifting 25 acres from rural residential to a planned unit development district. Memmer Homes will build 52 single-family ranch homes for residents aged 55 and older—each with a private garden courtyard and a starting price near $550,000. The Repository
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Jamier Brown, an Ohio State football commit and top high school wide receiver, had his mother file a lawsuit in Franklin County on Oct 15 to challenge OHSAA’s ban on name, image and likeness deals—she says the rule limits athletes’ ability to earn money. His attorney said the suit could help Ohio athletes earn money like peers in other states—possibly keeping local talent at home and boosting support for training and tutoring. The Repository
