COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Retiree Expo will be held Oct. 18 at Belden Village Mall (10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) and offers resources for retirees and those nearing retirement. AultCare's PrimeTime Health Plan is sponsoring the free event that provides information on recreation, fashion, beauty, health, and finance along with early registration perks. The Repository
- ➤ Molly Stark Hospital opened in 1929 to treat tuberculosis patients with fresh air and sunlight and is now being torn down this week due to unsafe conditions—park officials say no firm plans exist for the property. The Spanish-style landmark helped lower tuberculosis deaths in Stark County and was bought by Stark Parks to be turned into a park—its demolition marks the end of an era for a cherished community site. - ➤ Bob and Karen Vandervaart have given back to the Canton community by creating a donor-advised fund to support local youth programs, health care, and the arts. They also volunteer with their church’s sewing and food distribution ministries (United Way, ArtsinStark) to help those in need. The Repository

- ➤ Heritage Ohio is hosting its annual Preservation and Revitalization Conference in Canton today through October 16th—using historic sites like the Canton Palace Theatre and Onesto Lofts to offer sessions on renovating and preserving buildings while honoring the legacy of late state Sen. J. Kirk Schuring. The event will highlight tax credits and adaptive reuse to boost downtown development. The Repository

- ➤ Minerva's girls golf team competed in the first round of the OHSAA Division I state tournament, and team member Peyton Beaumariage shared her reaction+ she explained the team's performance and outlook for the next rounds. The Repository
- ➤ Lake Center Christian’s Jacob Rainieri shot 5-over 77 at NorthStar Golf Club in the OHSAA Division III boys golf tournament and will enter today’s final round in ninth place—his opening round setting the stage for the week.
