COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Canton Repository has announced a partnership with AI answer engine Perplexity — an arrangement that will feature our trusted local news in AI search results. The deal supports community voices and provides new revenue for our newsroom.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Canton Ballet marks its 60th season with 'Peter and the Wolf' today at 1 p.m. at Umstattd Hall — the performance features over 30 members of Canton Symphony Orchestra and honors a long legacy of training dancers while inspiring local students to pursue their dreams in dance.  The Repository
  • Jeff Dunham—who sold out the venue last year—will perform Feb. 27 at Canton Memorial Civic Center on his Artificial Intelligence comedy tour. Tickets cost $82.25 for the 7 p.m. show.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students interested in building and construction can take career and technical education classes, join apprenticeships with the Home Builders Institute, or start an NAHB student chapter to learn practical skills such as framing, masonry, and repair work. Javan Yoder (the 2025 president of the Building Industry Association of Stark & East Central Ohio) supports these efforts to prepare students for well-paying construction jobs.  The Repository
  • A new scholarship foundation in honor of late Lillie Stokes will be launched tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Sherrick Road Church of God to award two $1,000 scholarships to McKinley High seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA who plan to attend college. The committee, led by her children and church partners, remembers her 27 years as a lunchroom director (she often bought lunch for students in need).  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stark County Sheriff's Office received a $227,442 state grant to expand its STAR program for addiction treatment—funds announced on Oct 10 by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost—and the money will help reduce overdose risks and lower recidivism for jail inmates.  The Repository

HEALTH NEWS

  • Akron Children's Hospital will open a new pediatrics office in Jackson Township at 7058 Fulton Drive NW on Oct. 21—bringing care closer to Stark County families.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • North Canton Hoover hosted Perry on Oct. 10 in a Federal League football game where the Vikings built a big lead with key plays from quarterback John Collins and receiver Jack Andes. The Panthers, needing a win to boost their playoff hopes, could not overcome the deficit as Hoover controlled the game.  The Repository
  • Alex Hobe, Cash Iams, Sydney Long, and Adriana Pudloski were named Stark County Runners of the Week after strong finishes at cross country events last week. Hobe lowered his PR to 16:09 and Iams set a personal-best of 17:27—while Long and Pudloski earned top-10 finishes at their respective races.  The Repository
