- ➤ Otterbein UMC is planning its Fall Fest on Oct. 18 in Bethlehem Township—offering a roast beef dinner, food truck, kids' activities and a silent auction—and invites families to enjoy a day of food and fun from noon to 7 p.m. The Repository
- ➤ Businessman Ben Gulley will build a 15,000- to 20,000-square-foot indoor park on a vacant lot near Cherry Road NW to serve special-needs kids, with construction planned to start in early spring and an estimated cost of $1.5 million — the free venue will host birthday parties and family events. Mayor Jamie Slutz supports the project, and Gulley formed Bennie’s Battles Autism Foundation to promote the new space for Massillon families. The Repository

- ➤ Peter Billingsley, who starred in A Christmas Story, will visit Canton Palace Theatre on Dec. 21 — he will join a Q&A after a VIP pre-show meet and greet and a 7 p.m. screening that features a Toy for Tots fundraiser and a leg lamp giveaway — and tickets go on sale Oct. 10 with prices from $34 to $78 while VIPs cost $109. - ➤ Stark County-based a cappella group Vocal Fusion will perform at the White House on Dec. 6 as part of a holiday celebration—after applying online for the opportunity—and the group is seeking community donations to cover its travel and lodging expenses for the Washington trip. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Michelle Willock from North Canton urged Stark County residents to vote for Issue 1 on Nov. 4—this 1.6-mill levy funds the Board of Developmental Disabilities and helps more than 5,000 people access essential services. The Repository
- ➤ Canton is planning a comprehensive study of its roads using a $310,000 Safe Streets and Roads for All federal grant — led by OHM Advisors — to identify hazardous areas and guide future funding, with a 20% local match covering the cost. The study will create a detailed safety roadmap for the city. The Repository
- ➤ Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine imposed a 90-day ban on intoxicating hemp including THC-infused gummies and drinks, which will start on Oct. 14 at 12:01 a.m. Retailers must remove these items from displays — they must be returned or disposed of properly to help keep children safe while businesses may challenge the order in court.
