COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters from Erie Valley Fire and Rescue and other local departments demonstrated SoyFoam, a new biodegradable firefighting foam made from soybeans that is free from dangerous chemicals at Cedar Crest Farm on Sept 30th. The product, developed by a Wisconsin chemist and now produced in Georgia—costing $179 for a five-gallon bucket—extinguished fires in seconds and may soon be available in Northeast Ohio. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Trevor Stutzman, a 19-year-old Massillon teen and Washington High School graduate, died on Oct. 3 when a garage explosion destroyed his home and broke windows in nearby houses—firefighters found his body and no one else was hurt. The Repository
- ➤ At 8 a.m. Oct. 6 a limited chlorine gas release from treatment chemicals at the Aqua Ohio plant in Massillon led to the evacuation of the facility and two nearby businesses—no employees were injured and water safety was maintained while the delivery driver was taken to hospital for evaluation. - ➤ The Akron and Canton SCORE chapters have merged to form SCORE Akron/Canton — offering free mentoring, planning support and workshops to small business owners in Northeast Ohio. The merger reduced duplicate administrative costs and now serves 11 counties in the region. The Repository
- ➤ Master Pizza will open its first Stark location at the former Zepp’s Pizza on S. Main St.—the award-winning chain from Mayfield Heights operates 13 shops in the region and plans to offer dine in, take out and delivery. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Reps. Heidi Workman and Adam Mathews have proposed House Bill 450 that would let pregnant women use accessible parking with a removable windshield placard — the placard costs $8 and is valid for up to a year. The bill is now with the Children and Human Services Committee before it moves to the Senate. The Repository

- ➤ Week 7 of high school football saw Canton McKinley hold the top spot in the Federal League with a win over Hoover—Alliance and West Branch set to face off in a game that will decide the EBC title while standout players made strong contributions. Massillon bounced back with a win and the Greater Canton Football Power Poll now ranks Massillon and Lake behind McKinley as teams prepare for Week 8. The Repository
- ➤ USA Today Network released its seventh Ohio High School Football Super 25 Poll as the OHSAA season enters Week 8—two Stark County teams, Canton McKinley and Massillon, rank 17th and 16th among the top 25.
