  • TRIAD Deaf Services is a Canton-based nonprofit that aids the Deaf community in Stark, Carroll, and Tuscarawas counties by offering interpreting and advocacy services; it will host a Pumpkin Carving Party on Oct. 18, Deafsgiving on Nov. 16, and a Deaf Youth Christmas Party on Dec. 6 to bring Deaf and hearing residents together—boosting local support for inclusive programs.  The Repository

  • Aaron Robinson and his wife Melanie opened R+R Coffee Bar to serve the community and build relationships after he left a potential engineering career for a more purpose-driven life — his favorite drink, Honey on the Rocks with oat milk, shows his commitment to quality.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • W. Robert Morrison turned 100 and was honored at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where he has played the organ in Stark churches for 80 years. He has led music at the church since 1997 and is known as the Father of Church Music—an honor that shines in Canton.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Malone University will honor four alumni—Megan Mauck, David Yakley, Patricia Sommer, and Eric Lund—at a banquet on Oct 10 during homecoming weekend to recognize their contributions. Massillon osteopathic surgeon Alan Meshekow received the Orel F. Martin Medal on Sept 19 in Salt Lake City for his decades of service to the osteopathic field.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stark County Developmental Disabilities Superintendent William Green is asking voters to support a 1.6-mill continuous levy on Election Day—if approved, it will secure about $21.4 million annually to fund services for over 5,000 people and prevent cuts in education and support programs. If the levy is not approved, key programs will face reductions that could delay essential services.  The Repository

HEALTH NEWS

  • BBB warns that scammers target Medicare open enrollment, which runs Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, by calling and pressuring people for their personal information — including Medicare ID and Social Security numbers. Officials advise contacting official Medicare or Healthcare.gov sites and reporting suspicious calls to 1—800—MEDICARE.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Canton McKinley standout Harold Fannin Jr. scored his first NFL touchdown for the Browns against the Vikings on Oct. 5 when quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw a pass at (3:28) in the first quarter that gave the team an early lead.  The Repository
  • FOX 8’s 'Friday Night Touchdown' is back for its 29th season and will begin on demand this Friday, October 10—viewers can also watch an encore on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and vote for their favorite high school teams for extra game coverage.  FOX 8
  • The Browns traveled to London for a game against the Vikings where Jordan Addison scored a 12-yard touchdown with 25 seconds left and the team lost 21-17. Quinshon Judkins rushed for his first 100-yard game—penalties and strong defensive plays shaped the contest as the team prepares to face the Steelers next week.  The Repository
  • Three college football head coaches from Sacred Heart, Slippery Rock, and Ashland praised Stark County quarterbacks for their strong early season games. Poochie Snyder, DaOne Owens, and Cam Blair led their teams with key plays in wins—coaches expect they will keep improving as the season goes on.  The Repository
  • The Browns lost 21-17 to the Vikings in London on October 5 because they did not finish the game well. Strong plays by Justin Jefferson, Quinshon Judkins, Isaiah McGuire, and Alex Wright helped, while weak closing and low output from Jerry Jeudy and KT Leveston raised concerns — pointing to issues in finishing drives.  The Repository
