ECONOMY NEWS

  • Food banks in Northeast Ohio are preparing to help federal workers and families who may lose pay if the government shutdown continues. The Greater Cleveland Food Bank and Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank are planning ahead for a surge in need—drawing on past shutdown experience to keep food available for those affected.  WKYC

  • Jackson High School automotive tech teacher Joseph Drury received a surprise $50K prize from Harbor Freight Tools for Schools on Sept. 30 for his dedication to skilled trades. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today the federal government shutdown is affecting services in Canton as the National First Ladies Library and Museum closes because it relies on National Park Service support—other sites like the Veterans Affairs Clinic and federal courthouse remain open. Many federal workers are unpaid and travelers worry that delays could slow the local economy.  The Repository

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ragweed extends Ohio's allergy season from August through November by causing symptoms such as sneezing, itchy eyes, and fatigue—higher temperatures and more carbon dioxide may increase pollen levels and prolong discomfort. Experts recommend that local residents reduce exposure by keeping windows shut, washing off outdoor pollen, and using over-the-counter medicines to treat symptoms.  The Repository

  • The Browns named veteran quarterback Joe Flacco as the backup for Week 5 — coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that rookie Dillon Gabriel will start in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Flacco stays in the second spot while Shedeur Sanders remains third. Flacco said he did not see the change coming, and the decision follows his 16-for-34 performance against Detroit.  FOX 8
