  • Stark County is busy as the Engineer’s Office will replace the Northvale Avenue bridge over Sugar Creek starting summer 2026—environmental reviews are underway and detours will redirect traffic while community groups plan film showings, library programs, concerts, and fairs in October.  The Repository

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Virgil's Coffee House & Creamery is expanding by converting the old Louisville post office at 504 E. Main St. into an ice cream production facility across from its cafe at 523 E. Main St.—renovations are underway and the facility will open in Spring 2026.  The Repository

  • BBB warns used car buyers to beware of online scams—scammers lure buyers with too-good-to-be-true prices while demanding escrow payments and extra fees before the car is delivered from another city.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Eric Myers is the new executive director of the Lions Lincoln Theatre in Massillon after a 39-year career in education (from his teaching days), and he now leads the theater by listening to volunteers. He recalls that the Massillon Lions Club saved the building from demolition (in the mid-1980s), keeping a special place for art and shows alive.  The Repository

  • Veronica Morgan, owner-operator at Big Mama’s House Family Support Center, urges Ohio to simplify the process for obtaining a Type A childcare license so more local women can enter the in-home childcare field — a change that will offer better options for families in Canton — as the current system is complex and lacks transparency.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Stark County athletes made strong starts in college sports as Cara Murphy won two golf tournaments at West Chester University and Dayton football’s Robby Smart kicked a game-winning field goal; other local athletes in football, soccer, volleyball and cross country posted promising stats—raising hopes for a strong season ahead.  The Repository
