COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pro Football Hall of Fame broke ground on a new KeyBank Center—an event space in Canton with a cafe, VIP Club and turf rooftop terrace for both Hall events and community use. The $19.3 million project is expected to be completed in time for the enshrinement ceremony in 2027.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Plain Local Schools will host the free 2025 Stark County Area College Fair at GlenOak High School's main commons (1801 Schneider St. NE) on Oct. 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., where high school students and their families will meet with representatives from over 30 colleges to learn about applications, scholarships, and campus life.  The Repository

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will stock 20,000 muskies in nine inland lakes this fall—aiming to boost fishing opportunities for local anglers. The large fish can grow over 50 inches and weigh up to 40 pounds and are expected to attract more regional fishing enthusiasts.  FOX 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Stark County Veterans Service Commission begins a program to deliver care packages (including a notepad, shampoo, body wash, wash cloth, pencil, toothpaste and deodorant) to veterans in the county jail. The new initiative will connect the 23,083 veterans in Stark County to health care and support resources to help them reenter society after serving time.  The Repository

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Eric Ligotski from Akron Children's Hospital will present a study on accidental cannabis ingestion at the American Academy of Pediatrics convention on September 28 in Denver— the study shows a strong increase in cases among children under five from 2018 through 2024 with cannabis edibles posing a risk. Doctors now urge pediatricians to discuss marijuana safety with families during wellness checkups.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Canton South High School junior boys soccer player Guillermo Graves scored two goals in the first half — leading his team to a strong PAC-7 win over Northwest.  The Repository
  • Stark County high school football teams will play their Week 6 games on Friday, Sept. 26 with all matches starting at 7 p.m.—the season continues with several local matchups. The schedule features contests such as Green at Canton McKinley and St. Thomas Aquinas vs. Warren—viewers can watch the games live on the NFHS Network.  The Repository
  • On Tuesday, Sept 23rd, the OHSAA released its first official weekly high school football computer ratings ahead of Week 6 of the regular season. The ratings cover 708 schools across several divisions and will determine the 12 playoff qualifiers from each region for state championship games in December at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.  The Repository
