- ➤ She Elevates women’s leadership group will host its annual awards gala on Oct. 9 at La Pizzaria—honoring local women and girls who serve as community leaders, including Stark County Family Court Judge Michelle Cordova, Stark State College President Para M. - ➤ Canton City Council awarded $300,000 in opioid settlement funds to seven community programs for addiction prevention and recovery yesterday—half of the city’s $600,000 allotment. Mayor Sherer said the grants will support services like student education on naloxone use and outpatient withdrawal management and more funds may be given later. The Repository

- ➤ The FDA recalled over 150,000 pounds of frozen shrimp sold at Kroger and other stores in more than 30 states — including products sold near here — after tests showed they may be contaminated with the radioactive substance Cesium-137; consumers should dispose of the product or return it for a refund. - ➤ A recent CDC report shows that kissing bugs—carriers of the parasite that causes Chagas—live in Ohio, though experts say the risk of catching the disease is very low. Health officials advise residents to seal home cracks and use screens to keep these insects out. FOX 8
