- ➤ Sara Heckert directs Koala Kruisers, a Stark County transportation service that provides about 2,500 rides each month mainly for medical appointments, and since joining in 2021 she grew the team from 17 to nearly 50 employees—she lives in North Canton with her family and will expand services with summer partnerships with local camps and nonprofits. - ➤ Stark County is hosting many community events this week—today in Massillon, a Brown Bag Lunch at the museum will feature a talk about the USS Shenandoah crash, and upcoming activities include ArtFest at Mount Union on Oct.4, free alcohol safety training in Canton on Sept.26, film shows and a Beatles tribute in Canton on Sept.25–27, a book signing and a ventriloquist show in Massillon, a Project REBUILD donation drive in Canton, a Red Cross blood drive at North Canton Library on Sept.26, and a plant sale in Wooster on Oct.4. - ➤ BBB reports that TikTok users are getting direct messages with offers for quick cryptocurrency profits — messages that prompt users to send money and pay fees, which can lead to lost funds. The Repository
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Stark County natural gas aggregation program will offer new fixed rates starting in October for about 40,000 accounts, with Enbridge raising its rate from $3.29/Mcf to $4.65/Mcf and Columbia lowering its rate from $0.808/Ccf to $0.674/Ccf. Homeowners are automatically enrolled and will receive letters from IGS Energy, and they may opt out within 21 days if they choose other offers—IGS Energy explained the change locks in pricing for 12 months. - ➤ Walsh University now offers a 15% tuition discount to first responders and their dependents who are accepted for admission while Aultman College will host a free open house on Sept. 24 at 6 p.m.—Minerva Local Schools earned the Ohio Auditor of State Award for a clean audit report and four Jackson High seniors and one Hoover High senior are among the 2026 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. - ➤ On Sept. 15, North Canton Council discussed a proposal that would require owners of vacant land to register, pay fees, and show a plan for maintaining their property although some members are wary of extra charges. Today, the council also added legislation to contract Beaver Constructors for managing the new city fire station construction with groundbreaking planned for spring. The Repository

- ➤ Officials confirmed that the invasive Asian longhorned tick has spread to nearly two dozen states including Ohio and poses a threat to livestock—especially cattle—due to its high feeding capacity; regular tick treatments help control the spread and protect animals. FOX 8
