ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ All of Ohio is in drought, and Carroll County faces the worst conditions with Cleveland Hopkins Airport recording .23 inches of rain this September. The dry weather has reduced crop yields, browned city vegetation and stressed local waterways—officials are monitoring the impacts on agriculture and ecosystems. WKYC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ ODOT is proposing to remove a portion of state Route 297 in Canton, Perry Township, and Canton Township from the highway system so that Stark County will handle winter maintenance of Raff Road SW—ODOT said drivers will see no change in access. A public meeting is scheduled from 5—7 p.m. on Oct. 9 at the Stark County Richville Drive Outpost and comments will be accepted until Nov. 8. The Repository
- ➤ Ironwood Street SW in Canton Township will close to all traffic for 60 days starting Sept. 22 as crews replace a culvert. Drivers will follow a detour via state Route 800, 32nd Street + Forestdale Avenue until the work is finished. The Repository

- ➤ Lake High School played GlenOak in the OHSAA Week 5 football game on Friday, September 19 at Bob Commings Stadium — Lake held an undefeated record of 4 wins to 0 losses while GlenOak had 1 win and 3 losses. The Repository
- ➤ Tonight Perry Panthers host Canton McKinley Bulldogs at Keith Wakefield Stadium with kickoff at 7 p.m. McKinley beat GlenOak 38-0 last week while Perry seeks to bounce back after a 31-15 loss at Lake. The Repository
- ➤ Stark County high school football held 16 games on Friday, Sept. 19th—teams like Hoover, East Canton, and Louisville reached milestone records, and one game is scheduled for today with live score updates coming in through the night. The Repository
- ➤ In a high school football game on Friday, Sept. 19, Hoover beat Louisville 31—13 with big plays such as Brycen Beyer's 88 yard kickoff return that helped secure the win. The Repository
- ➤ Four Stark County high school cross country athletes were named runners of the week; Jayden Simonson placed 13th among 327 runners at the Boardman Spartan Invitational—he missed last season because of meningitis—and Rowen Hoffee, Lillee Woods, and Adelyn Peterson also earned honors with strong finishes. - ➤ Perry High School will honor 12 inductees into its 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame this weekend. They will be introduced before tonight's Canton McKinley at Perry football game at 7 p.m.—a banquet will follow at the McKinley Eagles. The Repository
- ➤ Morgan Rosenberry from Jackson and Rowen Hoffee from Minerva were chosen as Stark County Athlete of the Week for Sept. 8-14—Rosenberry earned 46.31% of the votes for her volleyball play and Hoffee received 48.59% as a cross country runner out of over 101,000 votes cast. The Repository
- ➤ Myles Garrett and Micah Parsons are two top edge rushers who will face off in Cleveland tomorrow as the Browns play the Packers, each aiming for a future in the Hall of Fame. Garrett broke sack records while Parsons needs 11 more sacks to join elite ranks — both show mutual respect as they prepare for the game. The Repository
