COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A family in Northeast Ohio had their 15-year-old water dog, Pumpkin, rescued from a steep embankment at their lakefront home in Rocky River after she went missing over the weekend. Drone operator Craig Fazenbaker used his thermal drone and then climbed down the dangerous embankment—bringing Pumpkin to safety while the family’s veterinarian confirmed she is fine.  FOX 8
  • Women’s Impact Inc. will hold Empowerment Day at the KSU Stark Conference Center (6000 Frank Ave NW) on Oct. 16 from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event, sponsored by Goodwill Industries and featuring expert sessions on health, wealth and leadership, will include a light breakfast, snacks and lunch with registration open until Sept. 30.  The Repository

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Today, Hall of Fame Resort and Entertainment Co. received an agreement extension as president Stuart Lichter extended the termination date from Sept. 17 to Sept. 30 because creditors have yet to agree on the merger conditions—borrowing capacity has increased by $2 million to $17 million. A new vote meeting for the merger is set for 10 a.m. Sept. 24 and management will soon prepare to transfer collateral if the default issue continues.  The Repository
  • Kirk Key Interlock in Lake Township is expanding its office and production facility on Meridian Circle NW by 60% to meet rising demand from the AI boom. The expansion has already created 13 jobs and will add about 7 more along with a 75% tax abatement from Lake Township and Stark County — a move that supports the company’s growth and commitment to safety.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Canton Palace Theatre has raised $9.2 million toward a $16 million renovation designed to update the historic venue for modern events, and work is expected to start early next year (in January) pending final funding decisions. The improvements will update the stage, dressing rooms, restrooms, and accessibility features, with completion planned by November.  The Repository
  • Ohio leads the nation in haunted houses after adding 11 new attractions since last year, bringing the total to 144 sites — the top 13 selections for Halloween 2025 include Canton’s Factory of Terror and favorites in Akron, Columbus, Cincinnati and Mansfield.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Browns Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward said dehydration led to cramping during the Week 2 loss to the Ravens on Sept. 17 and that he played only 20 plays before receiving fluids in the locker room—he expects to return when the team hosts the Packers on Sept. 21. Left tackle Dawand Jones also was eased out by coach Kevin Stefanski due to heat concerns.  The Repository
  • Canton native Darryn Peterson is predicted by sports journalist Bill Simmons to join Team USA for Olympic basketball in 2028—though he has not played college basketball, he is expected to grow into a leading player on the team. His potential is drawing keen attention in our community as he prepares for future challenges.  The Repository
  • The Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins made his NFL debut against the Baltimore Ravens, playing on 20 snaps and finishing with 10 carries for 61 yards along with three receptions. Although his first carry lost yards, he later showed vision on a 7-yard run—recording an 11-yard catch and a 31-yard run that highlighted his all-around skills.  The Repository
