- ➤ The Canton Fire Department will host an open house at fire station No.4 on Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — the free event will let families watch a live car extrication demonstration, meet costumed firefighter dog Hydro, see the Ohio State Highway Patrol helicopter, and enjoy food, drinks, a bounce house, face painting, and balloons with parking next door at the Malone University Johnson Center. - ➤ The merger to take Hall of Fame Resort Entertainment Co. private did not get enough shareholder votes on Sept. 16 and a new meeting is set for 10 a.m.—Sept. 25. - ➤ Canton Palace Theatre, which opened in 1926, will receive a $16 million expansion and update — the project will modernize its historic architecture for future events. The Repository
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Destination Cleveland announced that in 2024, visitors spent a record-breaking $6.9 billion which generated $1.6 billion in tax revenue and lowered taxes by about $1,460 per household. Tourism spending added over $11.4 billion to the local economy and supported more than 70,000 jobs as local businesses saw a 7% rise in visits and over 300 conventions boosted economic growth. FOX 8

- ➤ The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce released the 2024-25 school report cards showing that Canton City School District earned a 2.5 rating and does not meet state standards. Some districts saw changes with Akron improving and Cleveland Metropolitan dropping, as a new readiness measure was added—altering the overall scores across the region. WKYC
- ➤ Residents and students attended a Sept. 15 Lake Local Schools Board meeting to discuss concerns over a coach-led team prayer after a complaint was filed by the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
