- ➤ Former tenants of Victory Square Apartments in Canton left the unsafe complex about a year ago and now live in new homes—some say their lives have improved while others face ongoing issues with their current apartments. City agencies and landlords are working to fix problems, and a few tenants are still looking for better housing. The Repository
- ➤ Stark Parks completed rebuilding the Sippo Lake Trail bridge on Sept. 11—replacing a 150-foot section destroyed by arson on March 25 by a Canton man now charged with the fire. Red Sun Construction built the new $54,500 wooden composite bridge used by walkers and bike riders at Sippo Lake Park. The Repository

- ➤ U.S. Rep. Emilia Sykes urged Gov. Mike DeWine and ODOT Director Pamela Boratyn to add an Akron-Canton passenger rail stop to Ohio's rail plan, saying the region is Ohio's fourth largest and needs a passenger connection. The rail plan draft, released on Aug. 26, is set to be finalized on Sept. 18+ and reflects support from both business and community leaders. The Repository

- ➤ The Aultman Foundation awarded $49,583 in grants to 11 area nonprofits that will improve access to health care and mental health services in Stark, Wayne, Holmes, Carroll and Tuscarawas counties—programs include addiction recovery, free medications and counseling for first responders. - ➤ Stark County Cross Country Runners of the Week were announced. Luca Novakovic of Northwest ran a personal-best 15:41.8 at Wooster Invitational and Anderson Scott of Minerva helped secure a team title with a 15:46 finish—while Marissa Kromi of GlenOak placed 16th out of 275 runners and Makenzie Beavers of Minerva set a personal best of 18:43 at the Seneca East Invitational. - ➤ Former AFL star George Saimes from Canton Lincoln — who played local high school ball — and former tackle Bob Vogel from Massillon are among 162 senior nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
