COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Alliance Veterans Council will hold a program for National POW/MIA Recognition Day on September 21 at Memorial Park in Alliance starting at 3 p.m. The event will feature keynote speaker De Ann M. Williams and remarks by Frank Barnes and Mayor Andy Grove (it will honor local veterans Thomas Mangino and Army Cpl. Nathanel Thomas and include a firing by honor guard, taps, and echo).  The Repository
  • United Way of Greater Stark County started its 2025-2026 campaign at Walsh University’s Barrette Center on Sept 11 — the drive aimed to fight child poverty with a goal to raise $4.527 million. More than 200 people attended and the group highlighted how it helped children in need last year.  The Repository

  • On Sept 11, Gervasi Destinations named its new restaurant and bar, OLINDA — Modern Plates — Pours, for its venue at The Marketplace at Nobles Pond in Jackson Township. The restaurant will open in 2026 and offer a modern menu and stylish bar design to give local residents a vibrant new social spot.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hayden Grove, who was on The Voice, will sing classic songs at Massillon Museum on Sept. 18 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. He will sing favorites from the Great American Songbook with a bassist and keyboardist—tickets cost $12.51 for members and $14.64 for non-members.  The Repository

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • AccuWeather forecasts that fall colors in Ohio will peak by mid-October—after near-normal spring and summer rains were followed by a drier August, leaves will begin to change in late September. Old Farmer's Almanac adds that the season will offer vibrant hues this fall, unlike the muted display caused by last fall's drought.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, October 13, banks, schools and federal offices will be closed for Columbus Day—also called Indigenous Peoples' Day—as federal workers observe a holiday. In Canton, the post office will only deliver USPS Priority Mail and local garbage pickup will follow its usual schedule.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Browns safety Grant Delpit said tackling Ravens running back Derrick Henry is 'not hard' ahead of Sunday's game in Baltimore. Henry replied he would let his performance speak and coach Kevin Stefanski praised the running back's size, speed, and power—highlighting the challenge his skills pose.  The Repository
  • At Lake High School, star Ty DeGeorge broke his ankle in a 34-28 win last week and doctors said it was a clean break with no tendon damage so he is expected to recover in 8–9 weeks—meaning he will miss the rest of the season. Perry adds depth to its running game while McKinley’s Kayvon Dawkins and Hoover’s John Collins each are showing strong improvements on defense and offense.  The Repository
