COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Stark Community Foundation launched an online Community Data Hub that gives nonprofits and community leaders local data reports and fact sheets—this tool helps them make data-informed decisions. The foundation will also hold a free Data Workshop on Sept. 24 at Walsh University to show how artificial intelligence can improve data use—attendees need to bring a laptop for hands-on work.  The Repository

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Thousands of monarch butterflies will soon pass through Northeast Ohio as part of their annual migration—Cleveland Metroparks says the best time to see them is during the first three weeks of September when the insects roost in cottonwood trees for shelter.  FOX 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Canton City Council approved annexing former Fishers Foods sites in Perry and Plain townships for new business, including a Chick-fil-A and a 7 Brew coffee shop—demolition has begun on the Perry site. The plan now awaits Stark County commissioners’ endorsement with final approval expected by year’s end, while some township leaders have warned they may oppose the move.  The Repository

  • The USA Today Network Ohio High School Football Super 25 poll ranks the state's top teams for OHSAA Week 4, featuring two Stark teams. The poll is based on votes from sports writers—who award points from first place to 25th—and is updated weekly throughout the season.  The Repository
  • During Week 3 of high school football in Greater Canton, Lake lost its star Ty DeGeorge to a broken ankle while Minerva earned its first winning streak since 2020 and Massillon recorded its first losing record in years — top players like Cameron Evanich and JR Jackson helped shape the rankings as teams now prepare for Week 4 matchups such as Perry at Lake.  The Repository
