  • On Sept. 13, Canton will hold an ice cream social at Alexander's Art House—2433 Fourth St. NW—from 1 to 4 p.m. to raise money for Rowland Cemetery upkeep with a gift basket raffle at 3:30 p.m. and donations accepted until Sept. 10.  The Repository

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Starflyer Brewing Co., founded by Andrew Archer, his wife Bailey, and her brother Ethan Comfort, is preparing to open a taproom and brewery at 500 Cleveland Ave NW by the end of October in downtown Canton. The renovated long-vacant space was outfitted with repurposed fixtures purchased online— the taproom will offer 12 beers on tap, snacks, and special events during set hours.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the 52nd annual Yankee Peddler Festival begins at Clay's Resort Jellystone Park in Lawrence Township—over 200 artisans will bring a pioneer-era atmosphere with craft demonstrations, traditional foods, and live entertainment across three weekends from Sept. 6-7, 13-14, and 20-21. The event also features Yankee Peddler Today with modern arts and crafts, and gate tickets are $11 with discounts for seniors and children.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Stark County named its high school cross country runners of the week from both boys and girls divisions. Sophomore Logan Howard from Canton South won the big school division race at Lee Sternberg Invitational while senior Josh Renner from Hoover earned All-Federal League and All-Stark County honors+ Jackson’s Cameron Lusk ran her best time and Gianna Ritchie finished strong at invitational meets+.  The Repository
  • The Year of the Coach series shows many MAC head football coaches have deep roots in the Canton and Akron areas—this includes figures from the Akron Zips, Bowling Green Falcons, Kent State, Miami, Ohio and Toledo who shaped local college football history. The series highlights how these local ties influenced coaching legacies in Ohio.  The Repository
  • The Greater Canton Amateur Billiard Association will induct four new members at its 30th annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Oct. 5 at La Pizzaria in Canton — tickets are available at Clark & Son Billiard Supply through Sept. 26.  The Repository
