  • Breeze Airways will begin three nonstop flights from Akron-Canton Airport to Florida this week as it launches routes to Daytona Beach, Jacksonville and West Palm Beach—fares start at $54 for Daytona Beach, $49 for Jacksonville and $59 for West Palm Beach.  The Repository

CRIME NEWS

  • Police responded around 6 p.m. on Tuesday to a wellness check at a Canton home on the 1600 block of St. Elmo Avenue Northeast and found 41-year-old Jake Young dead from an apparent gunshot wound—investigators are seeking tips from anyone with information.  FOX 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chris Pine was seen at Akron-Canton Airport on Sept. 2 — filming scenes for the movie Carousel with Jenny Slate, as confirmed by the airport's marketing manager. The crew also shot scenes in Medina — part of Ohio's state-funded projects supporting local film work.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Stark Career Academy opened a new HVAC-R facility last month at Canton South High School with a $4.2 million state grant while R.G. Drage upgraded its lab to train juniors and seniors for skilled trades. Local businesses are eager to hire graduates—entry-level technicians earning around $45,000 to $50,000 as they fill a growing need.  The Repository

  • Scott Dodson of Massillon, CFO for Shoemaker Rigging and Transport, made his first hole in one at Raintree Golf and Event Center on Aug. 1st during the Green Chamber golf outing and won a new Chevy Blazer EV—he picked it up on Sept. 2nd and said the win was very surprising.  The Repository
