- ➤ Stark Library in Canton — will close Aug 30 for relocation and move to a temporary home at 1020 Market Ave N that will open on Oct 6 with two floors offering current services like a maker studio and a children’s area. The library will be closed all September while a Bookmobile at 715 Market Ave N and nine other sites stay open as plans for a new Main Library by 2028 progress. The Repository
- ➤ Tim Reichel of North Canton began volunteering with the American Red Cross during Hurricane Katrina in 2005—he immediately called the Stark County chapter—and later became a full-time community disaster program manager for the Heartland service area. He has coordinated responses to floods, tornadoes, and other disasters across several states—providing safety and shelter to affected communities. The Repository
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 27 around 5:48 a.m., a 53-year-old Lake Township woman died when her red 2021 Honda Civic crossed the centerline and hit a 2019 Peterbilt truck on Finefrock Road SW in Massillon—emergency crews transported her to Aultman Hospital in Canton where she was pronounced dead. The Repository

- ➤ Stark County-based U2 tribute band ONE celebrates its 20th anniversary with a free concert today at Plain Township Amphitheater at 7 p.m. The band will perform hits like 'Beautiful Day' and 'I Will Follow' and is sponsored by Grant Giltz + Oakwood Square. The Repository
- ➤ Local vocalist Roslyn Pratt will lead a Motown tribute concert today at the Cultural Center for the Arts Theater in downtown Canton where she and fellow singers will perform hits by legends like Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder—tickets cost $40. The Repository

- ➤ Frazer Avenue NW in Canton will close for four days starting Sept. 2 between 44th and 48th streets so crews can repair the road—said by the city's Engineering Department. The Repository
- ➤ Labor Day falls on Sept. 1 and most federal agencies, banks, and USPS mail will be closed while trash pickup in Canton is delayed one day—local stores like Giant Eagle and Acme Fresh Market will operate with regular or adjusted hours. The Repository

- ➤ Green High School football has dedicated its 2025 season to honor coach Jimmy Mashburn, who died in an auto accident in January, with players wearing special decals and coaches stitching his initials on their shirts — his wife Grace Mashburn said the tribute keeps his caring spirit alive.
