CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 77 year old man, Robert W Henderson, fired a revolver at the Lucky Star Express restaurant in Washington Square on Aug. 23 after accusing workers of food poisoning — officers recovered his .357 caliber revolver, noted two bullet holes in the door, and he was arrested and now faces felony and misdemeanor charges. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sts. Philip & James School in Canal Fulton celebrated its 150th first day of school on Aug. 19—this milestone kicks off a series of events including a pancake breakfast on Sept. 7 to honor its longstanding tradition, serving families from the local area for generations. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Canton may take ownership of the dilapidated Ritz Hotel Apartments when the City Council votes on Sept. 8 after the current owner offers the property for free—economic development officials will inspect the building to decide if it can be fixed for housing or must be torn down due to code violations and long-term neglect. The decision will affect local housing, as the property has been in disrepair and a haven for squatters for decades. The Repository
