- ➤ A Canton home suffered heavy fire damage around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 22 when an overheated air conditioner cord sparked a blaze, and officials said the structure will likely be razed. FOX 8

- ➤ Bloom cannabis opened as Massillon’s first marijuana shop on Aug 22 at 254 Federal Ave. NW in the Town Plaza Shopping Center—selling both recreational and medical products daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and receiving a warm welcome from local residents. The Repository
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 21 at 11:53 p.m., Canton police began searching for the driver of a gray Ford Edge SUV that hit and dragged a 52-year-old motorcyclist near Harmont Avenue and Fairmount Boulevard NE— the rider was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital where he is expected to recover. The Repository

- ➤ Fairless High School in Brewster won a $5,000 prize from T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights contest and will use the funds to upgrade its softball field—replacing gravel behind home plate with cement and addressing mismatched bleachers. It is one of five Ohio schools chosen from 450 nationwide and is now in the running for a $1 million prize if community engagement on social media continues. The Repository

- ➤ Labor Day on September 1, a federal holiday—will close government offices, banks, and delivery services like FedEx and UPS while USPS delivers only Priority Mail, and retail stores such as Walmart keep regular hours.
