- ➤ On August 23, some streets in Canton will close at 6:30 a.m. for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Kickoff 6K race — the streets will reopen when the final runner completes the course, but no later than 9:30 a.m. The Repository
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Felicity Grace King, a 17-year-old girl last seen at 9:10 p.m. on August 18 from her home on Pinetree Avenue NE, is missing and the Stark County Sheriff’s Office has issued an alert across several counties — anyone who sees her should call 911. WKYC
- ➤ A woman was arrested after her 6-to-8-week-old puppy died in a hot car when she went shopping on July 28—the Stark County Sheriff’s Office said the dog had no water or air in 90-degree weather and Tawanna Cox now faces charges of animal cruelty and falsification. FOX 8
- ➤ The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help to find Felicity King, a teen last seen on Aug. 18 at 9 p.m. in the 7100 block of Pinetree Ave. NE wearing tan pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, and carrying a pink backpack (call 330 430 3800). FOX 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Several school districts in Stark County, including Louisville City and Canton Local Schools, returned to the classroom on Aug. 19—some schools have staggered schedules with younger students returning later while Massillon City students start on Sept. 2. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Canton Council has allowed Mayor Stroia to choose his successor after no nominations were made for his vacant seat, and the 30-day period for the appointment ends on August 24. The city's director of administration has hired Jason Segedy as the new deputy director—he previously worked as the economic development specialist. The Repository
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Stark County-area high school football will start the season with 23 games this week, with two on Aug. 21 and 21 on Aug. 22, and all matchups scheduled for 7 p.m.—the OHSAA schedule lists teams such as Canton McKinley at Warren Harding in key contest matchups. The Repository
