CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On August 15, Stark County first responders gathered at the Sheriff's office to honor the memory of Virginia Clark, 66, who was killed in a December 2008 crash caused by a drunken driver while she was driving to mail Christmas cards—her daughter Kelli Ooten shared her pain and urged drivers to choose sober rides; the driver served six years in prison and was released from probation in 2018. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ America 250-Ohio unveiled its Lake Erie to Ohio River Trail, highlighting over 150 sites that preserve Ohio's waterways—Canal Fulton is featured with its Canalway Center, Old Canal Days Museum, and the St. Helena III boat offering narrated cruises. The trail gives residents a chance to explore the state’s rich history and reconnect with its historic canals. The Repository
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Carrollton Village Schools will open a new elementary school for pre-kindergarten through fourth grade students in the 2025-26 school year on the same campus as the middle and high schools. The 63,414 square foot building was completed in February with 41% state funding and will house nearly 600 students while offering new programs such as student mentoring and a sports officiating class (with state curriculum support). - ➤ R.G. Drage Career Technical Center has completed a 13,000-square-foot addition that houses a new HVAC lab and four classrooms to meet growing enrollment. The school will also expand its early college program with the University of Akron, now taking 50 students per grade — double the previous number. The Repository
