- ➤ FTAI Infrastructure from New York will purchase Brewster-based Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Co. for $1.05 billion— the sale will close by the end of September. Brewster Mayor Charles Hawk said nothing will change for the local rail service as the company remains a key part of the town. The Repository

- ➤ On Aug. 16, the Canton Symphony Orchestra and Players Guild Theatre will perform The Hunchback of Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. at Umstattd Hall, and guest conductor Steven Byess—who led the Super Bowl halftime show—will guide the show while the orchestra begins its search for a new music director following former conductor Jaroszewicz's resignation. Finalist guest conductors will lead concerts during the 2026–2027 season as the committee reviews applications and seeks community feedback. The Repository

- ➤ Fairless Local Schools has finished work on its high school campus and Brideweser Stadium as part of its master facilities plan— the district now begins a time capsule project featuring an 8-foot stainless steel falcon statue built by welding program students. Staff updates include a new aviation teacher, an assistant principal and new maintenance staff to support the new school year. The Repository
- ➤ Today, Canton Local Schools is launching the free Stopfinder Transportation app to give parents real-time bus updates while welcoming new superintendent Larry Tausch and several new administrators who replace Brett Yeagley. The district will hold a ribbon cutting and open house at 12:30 p.m. today—an event tied to a $4.2 million award that expands the HVAC program at Canton South High School. The Repository
- ➤ Alliance High School will launch a new culinary arts program on August 20 using a $3 million state grant, with Kaitlyn Gibson leading classes for juniors and seniors that teach food safety and hands-on skills.
