COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Chasing Hope House is getting its state license to open a residential program for youth aging out of foster care in Canton by January 2026—its pilot program will use apartments at Crossroads United Methodist Church and additional duplexes are planned for the Shorb neighborhood.  The Repository

CRIME NEWS

  • A 76-year-old female inmate who had been held since June 14 died on Tuesday at Stark County Jail after feeling unwell during a court appearance and suffering cardiac arrest when jail clinic staff attempted resuscitation—emergency responders then transported her to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital as investigators review the incident.  WKYC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Veteran rocker Donnie Iris will perform at Canton Palace Theatre (605 Market Ave. N in downtown Canton) on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. with guest drummers Joe Vitale Sr. and his son Joe Vitale Jr. and opener Beauty and the Beat; tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Aug. 15.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Edison Middle School now offers six new career tech courses for seventh and eighth graders, letting them explore fields such as plant science, animal science and technology, education, arts and communication, and wood construction—designed to reduce study hall time and help students prepare for high school CTE programs. Perry Local Schools also announced staff changes for the new school year, including the appointment of a new assistant principal at Edison and repurposing three teaching positions into dean of student roles.  The Repository
  • Lake Local Schools is upgrading the visitor-side bleachers at Blue Streak Stadium with new support structures, steps, and handrails to boost safety and meet accessibility standards; the work will finish before the football season begins. The district also announced a kindergarten meet and greet on Aug. 22 and a new mentorship program pairing older students with younger learners.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Postal Service showed new mail trucks and a faster sorting machine at its Canton facility on Aug. 13 as part of its plan to modernize local service. The upgrades let workers sort 4,300 pieces of mail each hour for over 48,000 addresses, but a local union said the changes do not cut delays since mail still goes to Cleveland for processing+ workers want mail delivered faster.  The Repository
