CRIME NEWS

  • Sheriff Eric Weisburn warned Canton residents today to be cautious of scammers who rush victims to act quickly—this tactic prevents them from calling family or friends to verify details.  The Repository
  • Stark County residents shared how they lost thousands of dollars to scams that threatened arrest and demanded urgent payments, with law enforcement reporting over half a million dollars lost in three weeks. Authorities stressed the need for prompt reporting and are testing new software—this may help trace cryptocurrency transactions for potential fund recovery.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Massillon Museum’s Studio M will host Greg Martin's photo-based exhibition Memento Mori from Aug. 16 through Sept. 28 — the exhibit reflects on life's impermanence. A free reception will be held on Sept. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the museum.  The Repository

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jackson Memorial Middle School will change its drop-off and pick-up procedures when the new school year starts after a bus garage demolition and improvements to curbing, pavement, fencing and signage — making traffic flow safer for parents and students. The district also appointed new principals and assistant principals and partnered with Dough Go's to serve locally sourced treats in school lunches — updates affecting several schools.  The Repository

HEALTH NEWS

  • Stewart’s Caring Place: Aunt Susie’s Cancer Wellness Center reopened its new space in June at 2813 Whipple Ave NW in Jackson Township to offer free support services—such as wellness classes, support groups, caregiver help, and a food pantry—for individuals and families facing cancer. Since merging in August 2024, the center has expanded its services and will host its Pasta for a Purpose fundraiser on Nov. 1 to raise funds for its programs.  The Repository
