- ➤ The Tuslaw Lions Club will host its End of Summer Chicken Barbecue on Aug 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Tuslaw Lions Club Park - a $15 donation secures pre-sale tickets when you call 234-650-4000. The Repository
- ➤ The Canton YWCA received a $3.8M federal grant to boost its Early Head Start program for children 6 weeks to 3 and to add prenatal support services for expectant mothers. The grant from the Child Care Partnership program—of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services—will help the YWCA work with local centers to serve vulnerable families in Stark County. - ➤ The Carnation Youth Color Run took place on Aug. 6 near the tennis courts at Silver Park in Alliance, drawing over 100 children (ages 5 to 18) who raced a 1-mile route while colorful powder fell around them. The free event was part of the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival, which runs until Aug. 10. The Repository
- ➤ Logan Avenue NW in Canton will be closed between 19th and 21st streets from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 10 for a block party—the Canton Police Department said the closure is to keep the event safe and orderly. The Repository

- ➤ On Aug. 6, a car hit the back of a horse-drawn Amish buggy on U.S. Route 250 in Sugar Creek Township and seriously injured two children riding in it—passengers and the driver were taken to hospitals in Canton, Akron, and Brewster. The Repository

- ➤ Canton’s new downtown brewery, now named Unfused Brew Hall, will open in November at the former Canton Brewing Co. site—its team led by head brewer Jake Turner and Leslie Wile is still seeking a kitchen manager after they discovered the planned name was already taken. The Repository

- ➤ Since Mayor Sherer began his term, Canton has aggressively annexed eight areas adding nearly 270 acres—mostly from Canton Township—to boost job growth and business opportunities. City officials plan future commercial use while some council members and township trustees worry about resource limits, with City Council voting on new annexations in September. The Repository
