- ➤ Stark County has a busy week of events—Canal Fulton will host an art festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 9, Canton will hold its fourth annual Touch-a-Truck Extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 9 to benefit the local Imagination Library, and Canton also sees its YMCA campaign raise $1 million while movie screenings, free concerts, and community safety programs are scheduled across the region. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Eric Nshimiye, a Lake Township husband and father accused of crimes related to the 1994 Rwandan genocide, remains in custody without bond 16 months after his arrest—his trial is not expected until next year. The Repository
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Lainey Wilson will headline the 2026 Concert for Legends at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival in Canton. The Hall of Fame announced her role after Nickelback’s concert on Aug. 3 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium—she will perform on Aug. 9 next summer—continuing the blend of country music and football. - ➤ Cat Russell, a published poet from Canal Fulton, discovered her passion for writing during NaNoWriMo and uses poetry as therapy after her father's death—she joined local writing groups to sharpen her craft. - ➤ The Academy for Urban Scholars helps young adults finish high school and learn job skills at Stark State's Downtown Canton Campus (including Jaleel Horton who will head to Central State University this month on a scholarship). The academy launched in 2023 and has produced about 150 graduates, with nearly all local students now employed or in college. The Repository
