- ➤ Alliance teen Nicoli Walter (13) is mowing lawns for free as part of The 50 Yard Challenge by Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service to help community members in need. He began on July 20, had completed 33 lawns by July 24, and plans to finish all 50 lawns to earn new equipment while balancing school and football practice. The Repository

- ➤ Perry Township police are asking for help identifying the driver after a hit-skip crash injured a 25-year-old pedestrian on July 28 at 8:40 p.m. on 12th Street NW between Overdale and Spring Valley avenues, plus no witnesses or suspect vehicle information have been reported. The Repository

- ➤ Stark County native John Mahon, the longtime drummer for Elton John's band, was honored on July 28 by the EN-RICH-MENT Fine Arts Academy in Canton for his support of its drumline and music programs—and he joined local students in a short, spirited drum session. He donated drumsticks and talked with the youth about practice and hard work—lessons that stem from his early days with the Canton Police Boys Club. The Repository
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Canton City Council approved a plan on July 28 to add a flood mitigation fee of $3.75 a month to water bills starting Jan 1, which is expected to raise about $2 million a year for stormwater projects—while it also annexed 84 acres and 16 acres for light industrial and business use including a planned Sheetz site, though details for the larger parcel remain unclear. Council will hold a final vote on the fee on Aug 11. The Repository
