- ➤ An SUV drove into the front porch of a Canton home in the southwest section on July 23, causing part of the building to collapse — the Canton Building Department declared the structure unsafe and ordered foundation repairs or demolition while the 50-year-old driver, suspected of alcohol use, was treated at Aultman Hospital. - ➤ A fire damaged the Cracker Barrel restaurant at 6940 Sunset Strip NW in Jackson Township early July 24, and firefighters from Jackson and North Canton worked for about three hours — one Jackson firefighter received minor treatment — and the restaurant is temporarily closed while investigators check the cause. - ➤ On July 23, firefighters responded to a blaze at 1713 Clarendon Ave.—A Canton firefighter and the tenant’s son were bitten by cats rescued from the home while the fire was controlled in 10 minutes. The Repository

- ➤ A state audit found that four former Canton City Schools employees were overpaid nearly $40,000 in fiscal year 2024—three bus drivers and one bus assistant received bi-weekly paychecks after leaving their jobs, and the district must recover the funds within 120 days. The district said the error happened during a leadership change in transportation and is working with prosecutors to recoup the money. The Repository

- ➤ The Alliance City Health Department announced it will spray for mosquitos on July 27 from 7 to 11 p.m. in parks, water and wastewater treatment plants, and along the Mahoning River, though spraying may be postponed to July 28 if weather is unfavorable.
