BUSINESS NEWS

  • Stark County native and PGA Tour golfer Justin Lower is partnering with Canton-based Society Brands—promoting its products at tournaments with branded hats. Society Brands announced the partnership on July 22 and will explore further marketing efforts with Lower to expand its health and personal care portfolio.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 40th Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Balloon Classic will take place from July 25 to 27 on the campuses of Kent State Stark and Stark State College in Jackson Township — it will feature over 40 hot air balloons, tethered rides, a drone light show, a 5K race, fireworks and a VIP soiree.  The Repository

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Motorists on I-77 near Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital saw steam rising yesterday afternoon as the Canton Water Department repaired a water line running beneath the highway—steam was used to cure the line and poses no risk for motorists.  FOX 8
  • On July 22, Canton Parks Commission approved an agreement that lets the Pro Football Hall of Fame use the 490-spot Stadium Park parking lot on Fulton Road NW in return for $50,000 a year, with the Hall getting 300 spots during normal times and exclusive access during select events. Mayor Sherer II and Hall of Fame president Jim Porter finalized the deal after lengthy negotiations that will cover maintenance costs for the lot.  The Repository

SPORTS NEWS

  • Louisville High School has been accepted into the All-American Conference — ending its independent status since the 2018-19 season — and will begin playing in the league starting in the 2026-27 school year. The conference includes teams such as Fitch, Boardman, Canfield, Howland and Harding.  The Repository
  • Antonio Gates, a former Kent State basketball player turned NFL star, will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 2 in Canton. He never played college football and worked hard to earn eight Pro Bowl picks and a record 116 touchdowns with the Chargers (a rare feat for an undrafted free agent).  The Repository
