- ➤ A charity golf scramble to honor legendary Canton South basketball coach Red Ash will be held on Aug. 9 at Spring Valley with foursomes teeing off at 8 a.m. and benefits to the Red Ash Scholarship Fund, with entry costing $100 and including 18 holes, lunch, beverages & appetizers. - ➤ Nearly 40 Ohio craft breweries—some from our region—won over 70 medals at the U.S. Open Beer Championship in Oxford. Third Eye Brewing was named Brewery of the Year for mid-sized producers and Muskellunge Brewing in Canton earned a silver medal. The Repository
- ➤ Six Flags Entertainment announced plans to close Six Flags America in Maryland by the end of this season and Great America in California in 2027—there are no plans to close Cedar Point or Kings Island in Ohio, where new rides have already opened this season. The Repository

- ➤ Marlington volleyball coach Stephanie Tortola won the Stark County Girls Coach of the Year vote for the 2024-25 school year by earning 55.1% of 21,780 votes and leading her team to a state runner-up finish—accomplishing a 27-2 record with a 25-match win streak. The award honors her achievement as she guided the Dukes to the Division IV state finals. The Repository

- ➤ Girls flag football has grown quickly with more Ohio high schools joining the sport—prompting OHSAA to sanction a state tournament in spring 2026. Fifteen-year-old quarterback Zoe Conner helped the Virginia Hurricanes qualify for the NFL Flag Championships at Hall of Fame Village, where competitions continue today until July 20. The Repository
