- ➤ The 18 candidates for the 2025 Carnation Queen donated over 1,000 pounds of food to Alliance Community Pantry on July 10 and worked with volunteers to clean and bag the items—continuing a 15-year tradition. The winner will be chosen at the queen pageant on July 26 at 6 p.m. at Alliance High School. The Repository
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Cuyahoga County prosecutor said a grand jury indicted 16 people for a $2.6 million money order scam that took place from December 2019 to January 2024 at over 100 Walmart stores, including several in Northeast Ohio — three suspects were arrested by the U.S. Secret Service and local police. WKYC

- ➤ TCC and Wireless Zone stores in Stark County will give away free backpacks for schoolchildren at 1 p.m. on July 27 while supplies last—Round Room marks its 13th annual School Rocks Backpack Giveaway. The Repository
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Canton City Public Health reported that five mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile virus, raising the total to eight—no human cases have been reported. Officials said the new positive samples came from 4632 Vernon Ave. NW and 1368 Henry Ave. SW, with collections during weeks beginning June 23 and June 30—larvicide and removal of stagnant water will continue.
