  • Fan Fest will launch at the Pro Football Hall of Fame campus from July 31 to August 3, offering free live music, food, games and photo opportunities with Hall of Fame inductees. Jim Porter, CEO of the Hall of Fame, said the event will help attract local residents by including free shuttle service and limited free parking — all designed to boost community engagement.  The Repository

  • A 16-year-old Canton girl was pulled from a lake at Wood's Tall Timber Resort on July 13 after being underwater for 7 to 8 minutes—she was flown to Akron Children's Hospital, where sheriff Orvis Campbell said she had a pulse and was breathing.  The Repository

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Taggarts Ice Cream at 1401 Fulton Road NW in Canton was voted the top ice cream shop by over 300 Canton Repository readers in a week-long survey, with 20% naming it their favorite in Northeast Ohio. The nearly 100-year-old shop recovered from a September car crash that damaged its dining room and now serves layered sundaes, ice cream cookie sandwiches, and classic fare — keeping its nostalgic charm alive.  The Repository

CRIME NEWS

  • Data from 2024 show that the Hyundai Elantra was the most stolen car in Ohio because models lacking electronic immobilizers led to over 1,300 thefts — automakers later added anti-theft features and offered free steering wheel locks to help curb the trend.  The Repository

CULTURE NEWS

  • Canton Ballet is marking its 60th anniversary season—Legacy in Motion—with shows that mix old favorites like The Nutcracker and new works like The Greatest of All Time. The season will kick off in October with Peter and the Wolf featuring live music by 36 Canton Symphony Orchestra musicians—narrated by a Pro Football Hall of Fame member.  The Repository

  • Hartford Bakery, Inc. recalled nearly 900 loaves of Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf sold at Kroger and Walmart due to undeclared hazelnuts—customers with nut allergies are urged to return the products for a full refund.
